One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
For my readers out there who are more fashionista than Tolkien fanatic, this inscription comes from the ring in the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. As I believe I have addressed before, I have a few nerdy tendencies among them being my love for all things british, fanciful, literary and magical and Lord of the Rings happens to fulfill all these perfectly. So one day, when I was perusing on tumblr I came across the idea to mimic the look of the ring on your nails on billy the brime's tumblr.
First I did a coat of Butter London nail foundation followed by two coats of Urban Outfitter's Admission for the rich molten gold look. After that had dried completely I replicated the Elvish inscription using a Sally Hansen nail pen and finished it by applying SV topcoat. Right hand looks pretty legit right? Then came the left hand...I started the pinky and I realized I wasn't nearly as ambidextrous as I had thought. In an effort not to totally destroy my nails, I then spent an hour practicing writing it with my left hand per my roommate's suggestion. As you can see, I improved, though I still have a lot of work to do. Considering my left hand was starting to cramp up from all that Elvish scrawling I translated it onto my nails and though it isn't nearly up to my right hand standards, it wasn't a total disaster. So moral of the story, read Lord of the Rings, because Tolkien is a brilliant writer and the movies are fantastic (if you are willing to spend an entire day watching them), oh and make sure you are in fact ambidextrous before attempting to write in Elvish with your left hand.
